Join Sooty, Sweep and Soo for a grand performance of the Sooty Theatre Show. There are three of the finger puppets in all, and each is a perfect reproduction of the on-screen character. There is also a soft-toy style theatre that will amuse little fingers and minds for many a long car journey or rainy afternoon.Without doubt the stars of this set are the finger puppets themselves. Small, but perfectly formed, they are just the right size for the three-to-six-year-old target market and move very realistically with the minimum of encouragement. The theatre, whose backdrop has Velcro to fasten it in position, is bright, colourful and is a nice compliment to the puppets. Balance it on a table, bob down behind, open the curtains (which draw and close on a string and have Velcro tie-backs) and it's on with the show. Totally washable, the theatre is well-made and has a handy carry handle for tours and other on-the-road events. Three little pockets make good tidy-away places for the finger puppets, whose main detraction is that they are easily misplaced.
This is a good introduction to puppetry and will encourage creativity, role-play and storytelling skills, and for mum and dad, this will be a fun trip down memory lane. --Sophie Lowe

Children who love to make-believe will adore Pop Up Sooty and Sweep. With or without a puppet theatre (not supplied), little hands will soon be able to put on a show to rival anything the Messrs Corbett achieved.Modelled around a top hat, the handles are mock magic wands (around 10 inches, or 25cm in length) the whole of which are covered in plush, black material. The 9cm (3.5 inches) top hat sits atop the wand--Sooty's has a decorative blue band, while Sweep's band is red. When at rest, Sooty and Sweep tuck nicely away in their hats. But, push up on the wand and, hey presto, Sooty or Sweep will appear. The wand allows limited turning to left and right, but a little practice and the two will soon be expressing many emotions.
Aimed at children of 18 months and above, the two should be surface washed only, with warm soapy water, and when the puppets are tucked away in the hats, they can be stored on their ends. Great fun, these puppets improve hand-to-eye coordination while encouraging children to develop their imagination through story telling and role play. --Lucie Naylor
